Janala Diye Bou Palalo. Well, seriously can this really be the name of a new Bengali film? Isn’t it one of the most appropriate tiles for a jatra? Whoever in his sane mind can be convinced that this actually is a film? Well,, they can be convinced if they are told it is a Aniket Chatterjee film. Yes, the man who created magic with Bye Bye Bangkok and went on to direct a few more romcoms and is a master of the slapstick genre is back after a couple of years. Barring Shankar Chakrabarty and the lead pair, the film features the usual cast members who are seen in his films.
Arjun Chakrabarty and Amrita Chatterjee play Upagupta and Mimi respectively whose paths cross unexpectedly and accidentally by luck one day. Upagupta runs away from his house because he wants to be a rockstar though his father wants him to be a doctor (having done very well in his medical entrance examinations) and Mimi runs away from her marriage ceremony because her parents force her to get married to someone of their choice. What happens thereafter is a series of haphazard events which makes this film watchable. The couple flee to Siliguri and the family members of both of them follow them to Siliguri along with the local goon and even the D.G who is mistaken to be a terrorist! It does end on a hilarious note however.
This is Aniket’s first road film though the genre is strictly slapstick. The cast has performed creditably specially Amrita as Mimi.
Though she is hardly a looker, however she does impress with her acting skills. Kharaj Mukherjee is the pick of the lot because of the characterization and also Kanchan who goes simply overboard as Rajnikant who is also a cop. The film has it’s share of sexual innuendos and the lead pair is also good. However an actress like Anamika Saha has been wasted. It seems Aniket’s previous films of the same genre were better.
