Team Proloy pays tribute to Barun Biswas in Shutia
arun Biswas, the impeccable mind, the relentless voice and an unending struggle against the atrocities in Shutia, will now be portrayed on the silver screen by Raj Chakraborty.
The first death anniversary of Biswas on 5th July was marked at his Shutia home by unveiling the first look of Proloy – Raj Chakraborty’s next, in presence of full cast and crew of the film.
Shutia in North 24 Pargana district of West Bengal was marred by more than 150 rape and murder cases between the year 2000 and 2003. Barun Biswas, a teacher of Mitra Institution along with several others from the area formed a “Protibadi Mancho” to protest against these atrocities and to an extent were successful in eradicating them. Stemming from this, Barun was murdered last year by some goons.
“Barun Biswas is that ray of light which has illuminated the dark side of the society. Some can write poem, some can write songs, some can do many other things, but I can make films, and this is my homage to his struggle” said Raj Chakroborty outside Barun’s house in Shutia.
The film will portray the life of Biswas and the social issues against which he fought. Parambrata Chatterjee essays the protagonist while he is accompanied by several others like Paran Bandopadhyay who were a part of the original Praloy Asche television series by Raj Chakraborty.
The music of the film is done by Indradeep Dasgupta and he has composed some really good numbers, which adds to the mood of the film.
Produced by Shree Venkatesh Films, Proloy is expected to be released in August.
