Rituparna Sengupta celebrates Mrinal Sen’s 92nd Birthday
onsidered amongst the greatest ambassadors of Indian Parallel Cinema on the global stage, the pioneer film-maker Mrinal Sen recently turned 92.
Sen, who has gifted us with a different class of films through Ek Din Pratidin, Bhuvan Shome, Akaler Sandhane, Neel Akasher Nichey, Baishey Sravan, Khandhar, Mrigayaa, Ek Adhuri Kahani, etc. and considered a worthy competitor of his contemporaries like Satyajit Ray and Ritwik Ghatak, has recently undergone a bypass surgery and also suffered a hip bone fracture.
Commemorating the priceless contribution of this legendary film-maker, photo journalists Dipanjan Ghosh along with Pratap Dasgupta on behalf of Pratham Photography & Kolkata Today, stepped ahead to inaugurate the cover of a special edition book that captures the different moods and moments of the philosophical artist.
“It took around 5-6 years to complete the compilation; and I’m really happy to have made this contribution to create a small token of remembrance of this living legend,” said Dipanjan Ghosh.
Actress Rituparna Sengupta played host to the occasion celebrating Sen’s birthday at her place, with the cake distributed and the cover unveiled.“I really appreciate this noble endeavor from Dipanjan and Pratap da, as they have made it a point to honour the greatest talent,” said Rituparna.
“I have grown up hearing about him and trying to understanding his works. He is a bench-mark whose only comparison can be himself. I have always had a dream to be a part of his films. I extend my heartiest wishes to him and wish him a long and healthy life ahead,” she added.
