T

asher Desh, Q’s adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s dance drama  of the same name will  finally release on the 23rd of August 2013.

Q is known for making films which are ‘explosive’ and ‘dangerous’ in nature and that is why his film ‘Gandu’ never released in India. He is considered to be a rated-R filmmaker, but he decided to make a film based on a story of Tagore.

The film has colourful costumes, installations a lot of make-up branding it thus as a Q film. Akar Prakar Gallery hosted the press meet of the film recently and on the eve of the announcement for the release of the film Q said – “People say my films don’t release. That they (my films) are intended to shock people and are meant to be viewed in a secretive manner, but Tasher Desh is definitely releasing across theatres, contrary to what people may think. This is a different film if one compares it with my other films, but one can say that the style and the making is strictly Q.”

When quizzed about the cast of the film, its producer problems and his thoughts on a delayed release – Q had a stern reply; “I always work with more or less the same cast and crew in all my films and this film is no exception. My films have a limited budget and I ensure no film of mine faces a loss. This film is a joint production by NFDC, Overdose Joint, AKFPL(Anurag Kashyap Films Pvt Ltd), Dream Digital Inc and Entre Chien et Loup and I would like to take this opportunity to especially thank Anurag Kashyap and NFDC for their crucial support. The story is the same, only there are certain additions and the narrative is mine. There are 18 songs in the film. I wanted the film to release on Baishe Sraban, but those things are not in my hands.”

The film has already been showcased at several film festivals all over the world and this process will continue. The film also features musicians from all over the globe thus making the entire effort a global one. The film features Imaad Shah, Rii, Tinu Verghese, Tillotama Shome, Sayani Dutta, and others. Arijit Dutta of Priya Entertainments is helping to get the film released in 10 theatres across Kolkata and has also played a role in the film.
