Dhritiman Chatterjee plays Byomkesh Bakshi in upcoming Bengali film - Sajarur Kanta
he inception of the idea happened about 5 years back and there he was, the 68 year old Byomkesh, talking to our Little Birdie at the DKS poolside.
Dhritiman Chatterjee, the name that was locked for the character back when the film was being planned, is never short of enthusiasm. His excitement and enthusiasm got propagated as the handsome old actor captured the limelight on location after 23 days of SAJARUR KANTA, directed by Saibal Mitra.
After a long day of shooting, that had a factory sequence and a wedding reception sequence in store, team SAJARUR KANTA assembled at the DKS banquet to address the media.
“We shot the wedding reception of Debasish and Dipa tonight,” said the director who believes in the classical style of film-making. Sitting alongside the sincere director were Indraneil Sengupta (Debasish), Konkona Sen Sharma (Dipa), Dhritiman Chatterjee (Bomkesh), Dwijen Bandyopadhyay, Debdut Ghosh, Biswajit Chakraborty, Kharam Bahadur, Kanchana Maitra, and Subrata Guha Roy.
Also present with the panel were music director Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Cinematographer Samit Gupta, costume designer Jayasree Dasgupta (a National award winning singer herself), theatre personality Sohag Sen (conducted workshops) and producer Saikat Mitra, who has also lend his voice for the film.
Our Little Birdie also spotted actor Jishu Sengupta peeping from the DKS balcony. A guest appearance, we presume!
Everyone was dressed up for the occasion, while Konkona quickly changed into a comfortable black saree from the heavy wedding saree that she had to bear in this heat. “Although my mother first came up with the proposal of this film, I was quite confused and afraid to play a character like Dipa,” she said.
“The relationship between Debasish and Dipa has been explored and projected in a very interesting way,” opined Indraneil.
Wrapping up the Debasish-Dipa part, the film now rolls into the Byomkesh part of the story, with the charming veteran actor stepping into the thick of the murder mystery.
Sajarur Kanta is produced by Pradip Churiwal and Saikat Mitra and is presented by Macneill Media Pvt. Ltd.
