Apur Panchali is based on the true life story of Subir Banerjee, the child artist who essayed the role of little Apu in Pather Panchali.

The lead cast includes Parambrata Chattopadhyay as the adult Subir Banerjee, Ardhendu Banerjee as the older Subir Banerjee, Parno Mittra as Subir’s wife Ashima and Gaurav Chakrabarty as Arka, a student of SRFTI, uncovering Banerjee’s past.

The film employs clips from the Apu trilogy & documentary style footage, crafted beautifully in a fictional narrative, framing an interplay of fact and fiction. The use of original footage is aimed at creating an uncanny resemblance between the life of little Apu, and the actor who played him - Subir Banerjee.

The entire Bengali film fraternity held a breath, waiting anxiously to see whether the team of the national award winning director Kaushik Ganguly, Sirsha Ray, Bodhaditya Banerjee & Indraadip Dasgupta, could match the historical trend-setters.

Since the film's premiere, reactions have been pouring in from all corners; “The film is a heart-warming, eye moistening tribute from Kaushikda," stated an elated Srijit Mukherji to our Little Birdie, while Raj Chakraborty, who could not stop hugging Kaushik Ganguly said, “This great piece of art from Kaushikda is poetry in motion."

The theaters in the first week were almost fully packed - even the afternoon shows, which is the least preferred during this scorching heat. A tribute to all the child actors lost in time, Apur Panchali is touted to stand the test of time and join the ranks of on an epic Indian classic.
